Tips Everyone Should Know

As most people are I am crazy over Pinterest. Many people ask me "Do you go back and look at what you pin?". Of course I do. I am a picky pinner. I don't belive in pinning someting I would never use, do, buy, or read. One of my boards is my "Tips" Board. I love this. Everytime someone has great advise or tips I pin it here. Some ideas are genius and some are helpful or now and later. I thought I would pass on some of my favs and there will be more to come...

Submerge your green onion ends in a glass of water and place by a sunny window. The green tips will start to grow back and you can use them again. I have tried this and it does really work. The key the sunny window. If you do not place it by the windos you greens will turn yellow.

Use your soda can tabs to extend your closet. My hangers do not fit but this is a great idea if you have hangers that do fit within the tabs.

Hydrogen Peroxide can save your dogs life. By giving your dog a small amount of hydrogen Peroxide you can induce vomiting. I did use this when our dog Cash ate a bottle of advil. We gave him a table spoon ( he is 30lbs) and waited 10 minutes. He vomited up the advil. We then gave it to him again until the vomit came out clear. Read more here before tying this. Which I wish nonone ever to have to.

Use a coaster under your honey to ensure it does not drip. We love our honey. At any time you can find 3 differnt jars of honey in our cabnet. This really does help.

Double Rainbow at Work

It is the rainy season in Seattle but the best part about rain is a rainbow!! One afternoon during a meeting at work the rain stops and out comes a double rainbow. It was so amazing the meeting stopped and everyone got up and took a picture.
This is what I love about Seattle.

Breakfast for the Week - Egg Muffins

For the past 6 weeks I have been low-carb, low-sugar and I feel great and have lost 9 lbs!!! As part of the 6 week routine I have had to adjust and ensure I had food that I could eat and not give into the temptation of bagels and pizza. So I have been making egg "Muffins" for my breakfast. I make a dozen each Sunday night to last me the work week. They are so easy and you depending on what you add to them you can change it up each week. They would also be great if you were having a lot of people over for brunch for for Christmas morning.

Here is what you need:

Egg Whites
Cheese
Muffin Pan
Non-Stick Spray
Oven Pre-heated to 350

I add peppers, fozen spinach, and onions. In a skillet cook all of your items until they become tender. Besure to add any spices and seasonings you like. I add Mrs.Dash Garlic Blend.

Remenber to spray your muffin tin with non-stick spray. Once items are cooked disperce evenly in all 12 muffin slots. Sprinkle cheese on top of the mixture.

Once all items are added fill cups with egg whites. Add Salt and Pepper at this time and stir with a spoon to mix in all ingredients.

Bake at 350 for 15 - 20 minutes depending on how you like your eggs. If you are cooking these for the week remeber you will re-heat these in the microwave for 1 minute.

Enjoy!!

Winston gets a Radish....

Tonight I got home early and decided to start dinner. As always I had two little helpers, Winston and Cash. I go to the fridge to grad the cauliflower and the onions. I'm making cauliflower mash which I am very obsessed with right now! And I like to make it with all the different colored cauliflower we are getting right now, orange, purple, green.
So I grab the items and walk to the counter to put them down, and left the door propped open ( I know mom and dad.....) because I was going back for more. Before I start my prep I go into the living room to turn the channel to Real Housewives of Miami, which I also obsessed with now. And what do I find? Winston munching down on the white radish! He must have snicked it out of the crisper when I left the door open. Needless to say he did not get to keep his spoils.

Breakfast at Roxy's Diner

On our way to Oktoberfest we stopped off to have breakfast and prep for the beers were were about to consume. As with most of our adventures we had no plan. Walking through Fremont we stumbled across Roxy's Diner. It was 9am on Saturday and packed so we knew it had to be good. And it was!
The menu was amazing. It was a hard choice but eventually we made it. Take a look it is not that easy. As bad as I wanted a bagel, and will be going back for one we both decided on a scramble. This was some of the best breakfast I have ever had. I recommend if you are in the area stop in and grab a bite. You will not regret it. Find it Here:

Sneak Peek at the Menu:

Fremont Oktoberfest 2012

Oktoberfest is one of our favorite events of the year. We have been going to Oktoberfest every year since we met, this is now our 8th year. Now that we are in Seattle we decided to go to the Fremont Oktoberfest this year. It was a lot of fun, but really different from all the other Oktoberfest we have been to. It was much more of a beer-fest than German Fest. There were over 40 breweries serving 2-4 beers each. We both received 12 tokens to get 5oz tasting per token. It was a blast. Of course we were the early birds and got there when it opened but once it started to get to crazy we were ready to head home. Don't worry all we rode the bus there and back.

Jared's First Beer of the Day 11am. We also set up camp at a table in the middle of the tents :)

Humm... what beer next??

Halfway through the day.

Jared reviews the map to see what to get now. And it started to get busy.

We survived Fremont Oktoberfest 2012! 4pm.

Cash Waits...

One Wednesday I left work early with a bad case of allergies, so I got to see what the beagle do all day. Well most of the day it was what I expected..... they slept. But once 5:15pm arrived Cash jumped up and sat on the back of the couch. There he looked out the window and did not move for 15 minutes. The front door opened and he jumped down to greet Jared. I don't know what he was thinking but I believe he was waiting for Jared to get home. No matter what it was super cute.

Ink + Dryer = BIG MESS

Sunday is laundry day. This has been standard in our house for years. Today was not a happy laundry day. I put in our first of three loads today and everything was off to a good start. Well not after that first load dried. I go to take out the Jared's jeans and there it is, ink all over my hands. This is when panic set in and I realized there must have been a pen in Jared's pocket. Yes that was it and it busted all over the dryer. The good new was my sweater I tossed in at the end took one for the team and only a little got on the jeans. The bad news is my dryer is now covered with blue ink! So I Googled "ink in dryer" and this great website comes up. The Happy Housewife, here she had the same thing happen and was able to get it out with fingernail polish. So I took her advise and went to cleaning the dryer. Well my results were not as great as hers but it helped a lot.

Before: Notice the pen marks.

After: Most of the big marks are gone but I could not get the area around the lent trap to come off.

Spoils of Oregon

Along the drive in Oregon wine country we stopped at a few farm stands. We came home with Honey, Hazelnuts, and Peppers. I love not having a set schedule when you are exploring a new area. It allows for spontaneous stops and great finds. Farm stands are a great place to meet the locals, find some great new fruits and veggies to try and just get a taste of the land around you. If you are ever out  and see a farm side stand. It does not matter if it is a large operation or man and wife on the side of the road selling jam, stop say hi and check out what they have to offer. You never know what you will find.

From left to right:
HANNA'S HONEY - Checkout all their honey's here.
LOLICH'S FAMILY FARMS - Visit here site and find out more.
FREDDY GUYS HAZELNUTS - One of my favorite nuts. Theses are amazing, Get your own here.

Green Cherry Bomb Peppers. They were great in Purple Hull Peas.

Honey Stick from Hanna's Honey. My favorite was the peach.

Lunch at Rouge Brewery

While in Portland we had to go to Rouge Brewery, one of Jared's favorites breweries. We went to the Rouge Distillery and Public House in downtown Portland. Here is what we had. Check out the menu and see what you would get.

Taste of the Day. I love this and wish more Breweries would do it. When we sat down we were each given a taste of the beer of the day. It was a nice welcome and got our taste buds ready for some great drinks.

SPINACH AND CHEVRE SALAD   $10.95
Fresh spinach leaves topped with rotating local chevre from Oregon rolled in almonds with
walnuts, red bell peppers and warm NEUSKE’S bacon vinaigrette with tangerine juice and dryhopped St. Rogue Red.  Served with out fresh Rogue baked Hazelnut Ale bread.

I added chicken but you don't need to. The chevre cheese was amazing!!! And the bacon vinaigrette was a complete contradiction for a salad but was the star of the show.

KOBE TACOS   $10.95
Seasoned ground KOBE beef with chopped lettuce, salsa, sour cream, and TILLAMOOK cheddar cheese served with soft corn tortillas.

Wine Tasting in Oregon

What better way to spend a long Labor Day weekend but with family and wine tasting. This past weekend Jared and meet his parents in Oregon for the long weekend. Now here is the awesome part John and Linda do not live in Oregon they live in Texas. They are on an adventure around the Western part of the US. Recently they set out in their RV for their maiden voyage and this weekend they ended up in Portland.
While we were visiting we went to a few wineries and vineyards around the Portland area. There were some great and some good.

Our Journey began at the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum. This was not a planned tasting but how could we pass up wine named for the Spruce Goose? This was from the Evergreen Vineyards, I did not taste this time but the family said it was very good. We left with three bottles :)

The family tasting.

The Spruce Goose wine selection.

Next we ended up at the Lange Estate Winery. Not this is not our winery but we can dream. Jared's parents had found this wine before in Texas and were a member of the wine club. Now that we saw the signs we had to stop and I am glad we did. It was the best wine stop of the weekend. We had a tasting then got a bottle of Pinot Noir Willamette Valley and enjoyed the scenery on the back patio over looking the vineyard.

Bottle on the Patio.

Jared and his dad overlooking the vineyard.

The next day we went back to visit two other wineries. Not as good as Lange Estate. Here are some other snapshots of the weekend.

                                                          Vineyards at Ponzi Vineyards.
